The Yandilli Trilogy [Hall, Rodney] on *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. The Yandilli Trilogy. The Yandilli trilogy is a series of three books written and published separately (the third one, Captivity Captive, was actually written and published first), all set in and around the (fictitious) Yandilli settlement in New South Wales, Australia, at different periods in its history. The first book is The Second Bridegroom. As a whole this trilogy is an interesting read on colonial Australia, and the stories of the three generations are subtly tied in for a very nice effect. Each story brings its own wit and tragedy. The tales are dark, complex, gripping - the description given to this book as a 'great colonial saga /5.   The Second Bridgegroom () is Rodney Hall’s sixth novel and first in the Yandilli Trilogy, but it was written after Captivity Captive () which is No #3 in the trilogy/5.

'Captivity Captive' is my favourite book by Rodney Hall. I've read about five of his. I think this one stands out for me because it has the sharpest, most tightly constructed plot/5.   The trilogy consists of three novels, all set in the fictitious settlement of Yandilli, in New South Wales. The novels are set thirty years apart – with the first in , the second in and the third in The trilogy is on one level about the exploration of New South Wales (from its beginnings to the present), but it is not a simple recording of history, nor a travel guide. It is, instead, a complex, stylized interrogation of the meanings of place, family, and art - and the inevitable mystery of this interrogation. "In this stunning new novel, Rodney Hall tells the story of Catherine Byrne, a nineteenth-century English missionary who travels to remotest Australia with her prophetic husband and his band of women disciples, the Household of Hidden Stars/5.

The Second Bridegroom () is Rodney Hall’s sixth novel and first in the Yandilli Trilogy, but it was written after Captivity Captive () which is No #3 in the trilogy. Both of the novels were shortlisted for the Miles Franklin Award but it was No #2 in the trilogy, The Grisly Wife, published last of all in , which won Hall his second Miles Franklin. Critically acclaimed trilogy spanning the period from the last days of the convict system to the approach of Federation. 'The Second Bridegroom', first published in , deals with a young convict who escapes into the Australian bush, 'The Grisly Wife' f The Yandilli Trilogy | Brotherhood Books JavaScript seems to be disabled in your browser.
